Plug and Play, Easy Navigation, Crisp picture, Varieties of connection

Review Date: September 10, 2007
Reviewer: K. Aujong, Bedford, TX United States
First, I would like to say that this TV is a beauty. It's easy to setup. It took me around 10 minutes to set it up which include opening of the box, moving away all the styro foam, hauling it to the TV stand and connecting it with HDMI cables.
Second, I have Sony PSP and this TV's navigation's is very similar to the PSP. Hence, in order to navigate through the menu is a walk in the park. In addition, short cuts on the remote is good enough for me.
Third, Crisp Picture (stripe test). I almost bought Samsung LNT4065F. The Samsung has a reflective screen which makes it look really cool + it makes it look like a plasma. However, when the store showed a man with stripe shirt on the both screens, this Sony TV could show the stripe without any difficulties while the some stripes were combined into 1 stripe on the Samsung. That when I decided to pick this Sony over the Samsung. Btw, I also compared this TV with Sony KDL-40V2500. Crisp-wise, they looked the same however the picture on the KDL-40V2500 is a little darker (the contrast is 7,000 compare to 16,000 on the W3000). However despite the contrast is only 7,000 in the V2500, it passed the stripe test as well.
Fourth, Varieties of input. This TV offers quite a variety of input. I have tried the HDMI, Component, Coax all of which yield superb pics. The HDMI yielded the highest quality of picture. I tested the TV with HD cable box with component as well with HD cable box with HDMI. The one with HDMI yielded a little better picture.

In summary, KDL-40W3000 is a easy to setup, to navigate TV with a high quality picture and has a good varieties of input. Enjoy!
Its a Sony alright

You really get what you pay for. I looked at the cheaper and lower Sony models and the resolution at 16000 is why I chose this one. I checked Best Buy and Ciruit City and they told me they match each others prices but can't compeate with Amazon. Worth the 5 day delivery wait saved $300.

After much research we bought this TV in September 2007 for our den. We have been a Sony TV fan and this one kept upto our expectations or much more. The HD picture clarity is so good and life like ( movies or sceneries)that we wish that we bought a much bigger size.As expected, this TV has to be connected with HDMI cables for best picture quality. The viewing angle is very good. If one spends a few minutes with the manual,it is very user friendly. While the inbuilt speakers are fairly good, we recommend surround speakers to get the best sound experience for the picture quality.
Overall, we are immensely satisfied this product.
As always, the order placement, execution and the whiteglove delivery as promised by Amazon was excellent.

A cinematic experience

Reviewer: Starfish,
The quality of the picture this display is capable of producing
is simply outstanding. The colors are clear and vibrant, and the
circuitry transitions smoothly from one scene to another. Esthetically,
the design of the set is elegantly simple, and functional. There are
plenty of alternative connections for now and the future. The sound is
rather mediocre, but pleasant enough if you simply turn the treble
down. Easy to read and navigate displays, and a lighted remote control
make this TV an excellent choice for anyone looking for advanced circuitry, and solid value in a flat panel television.

Having a family room with one complete wall of windows, I was never able to watch a TV against the opposite wall. This Sony 40W3000 has a non reflective coating that has minimized relection and glare beyond anyone's expectations. If you're having similiar problems, I recommend you try this 40 inch or the 46 inch version (46W3000) for an exceptional HDTV picture beyond comparison.

Better Than The 650's! See For Yourself!

Review Date: November 13, 2008
Reviewer: Thomas E. Rhodes, Boston
I have had the LN52A630 for a week now and I have to tell you that it is clearly the best overall choice for an LCD TV with 120hz. I recently wrote a similar review for the LN46A630. I chose to replace it with the 52" only because our livingroom is too large for the 46".

I'm not sure why more people are not going for the 630's over the 650's just for the glare issue alone. My friend has an A650 and in my opinion the reflections are just as bad in his living room as they were in the showroom of the big box stores with the 650. I have two windows directly opposite the TV and a large bow window to the right. My concern was how little control I would have with that much natural light hitting the TV. So far, my 630 has past the evening lighting test with flying colors. With all of the possible lights on in this large room, there is absolutely no reflecting light visible on the TV. During the day with the Sunlight filtering directly into the back windows hitting the TV, there is no reflections to speak of. Awesome, consistent picture on the "matte" screen.

Thanks to the reviews of the 650's about the reflections, I took a chance with the 630 with the "matte" screen and am I ever glad that I did. The difference is significant and because of this reason, I truly believe that the 630 has a better overall picture. It's all about personal preference. Sure it's got one less HDMI and slightly less contrast ratio because of the screen but there are more than enough settings to compensate for this.

I am still making adjustments and learning just what this TV is capable of, but I got to tell you that the Celtics/Hawks game in HD was nothing less than orgasmic. I was in awe switching between that and the Hockey game in HD. Unbelievable!

This TV is the way to go if you want all of the features of the 6 series but not all of the reflections. Get this TV, you will be happy that you did!
Great TV

Reviewer: DAG,
For a long while I couldn't decide between the A630 or the A650. I finally went with the A630 because I tend to notice the glare on really glossy screens.

I'm the one with the customer image of the crazy "monitor" setup... I've had this TV for about a month, use it quite a bit every day. Every day I'm changing between source inputs... I use this Samsung for TV (not much), some movie watching (DVDs), a lot of xbox 360 and quite a bit as the secondary monitor on a dual computer monitor setup.

I'm quite happy with this purchase. The clarity is awesome, and the glossiness of the screen is just right for me ~ it's not totally "matte", I'd call it semi-gloss. The contrast is excellent, colors vibrant, and I would highly recommend this TV for any of the purposes I currently use it for (TV, movies, video games, computer monitor).

As for the "touch of color"... I'm actually not sure what that means for my set... I don't see any red or any other color for that matter.

The 120Hz is... interesting. I think it really helps TV and movies. I can't quite explain it... it's almost like it's so fluid that it just looks abnormal, I don't know. Some people say they don't like it, or it makes the video footage look like poorer quality... but I actually like it and use it except for fast paced video games (when every millisecond of video processing delay counts). You can adjust how much of the 120Hz processing you want, including turning it off.

I bought straight from Amazon and the delivery was extremely quick and painless. Overall I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

UPDATE
****

It's been almost 11 months and I just wanted to say - I'm still very happy with this television. It's great for High Defintion TV, movies, Netflix over Xbox360, and video games. I'm quite relieved that my first expensive TV turned out to be so nice!
Perfect for bright rooms. Fantastic picture. Excellent TV.

One thing that always helped me make a decision between plasma and LCD sets was the fact that LCD's used a matte screen to reduce or eliminate reflections and glare. When I began shopping for a 2nd LCD for the home I wanted to go with Samsung as we had excellent experience with our 40" LCD. I was surprised and disappointed when the Samsung models I was interested in had a "new" glossy screen. The LN52A650 and LN46A650 were both sets I was looking at. I really wanted a bigger screen than the 46" but didn't want to spend too much money.

Our TV room has windows on every wall and a gloss screen was just not an option. After an obsessive amount of research I found reviews for the Samsung 630 line. I bought our first set at Ultimate Electronics in Minneapolis and thought I would go again. They didn't even carry the 630 line. Its seems the 650 line is being pushed by most retailers. Had it not been for the reviews on this site and others I would not have known the 630 line was out or that it had a matte screen.

Onto the set. The picture is one of the best I've seen on any TV. Just fantastic. There are a lot of adjustments that can be made to tweak the picture. Many sites I've seen on tweaks actually recommend using standard settings and backing down back lighting and brightness. The idea being real life isn't viewed in dynamic or sport settings on the TV. That's up to the viewer and I haven't found the perfect setting yet though I'm getting closer.

The HD channels are beautiful, crisp, clear and sharp. Most of us still have to deal with some of the standard DEF channels. These channels are OK but a lot depends on the signal you get from your service. We have some that are better than others. If you watch HD channels and switch to standard, you will notice how good HD is. But the standard channels are still good and look good on this TV. Hopefully HD will become the norm soon. Movies are excellent both standard and of course B/R.

The 120 HZ is great. The "auto motion plus" is great for sports. Its a matter of personal taste for movies. It gives a somewhat 3-D appearance to movies, making them look like video instead of film in certain situations. Some cinema experts would say the Auto Motion Plus detracts from the film feel. I turn it it off for movies because I don't like it, but again this is personal taste. NOTE: 120HZ is NOT the same as Auto Motion Plus. The TV will always run at 120HZ. There are a lot of sites where 120HZ is explained. Just remember this TV is 120HZ no matter what and Auto Motion Plus is an anti judder feature that can be turned on or off or set at different levels. The reason the display usually says 60HZ, is because its the signal coming in, but the TV process rate is 120HZ. It up-converts to 120HZ. "Mr. Samsung" on C-net explains a lot about the two. This link shows the set processes 120HZ with AMP turned off. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=997138&page=9
I also confirmed this on a "Live chat" with a Samsung tech on their web page.

Some reviews really slam the sound of this TV. In general TV's alone don't usually have concert hall sound. That being said I think the sound on this set is very good with some adjustments. We are hooked up to a big sound system but for every day use the set's own sound works very well. If you look at the slim depth of the TV you really shouldn't expect punchy, deep bass. If you are looking for cinema sound, you really should consider a system to enhance the experience and not depend on this or any flat screen set to take the sound beyond what's normal for most sets. Bottom line here is that for basic viewing the set is just fine and the sound is good.

Set up is easy, the remote is nice and lights up at night. The "Touch of Red" they talk about is hardly noticeable. I had to look hard to see it in the right lighting. Its not like the 650's. The color does appear if there is some backlighting behind the TV. I personally like it but its very hard to notice. It is there though.

We have the set of our dreams. Big but not too big, nice looking and well,,,, the picture is unreal! After reading a number of reviews, this set specs out nearly identical to the 650 line. The dynamic contrast ratio is slightly lower 40,000 to 1 compared to the 650's 50,000 to 1, but that is said to be related to the 650's glossy screen in part. C-Net reviews rated the 650 as a "similar product" to the 630 and the 650's picture received an outstanding review. The 630 costs less too. The picture is on par with some of the best plasmas and as good as any other LCD out there according to the review and from what I've seen. The Samsungs have been getting high marks on picture quality and the LN52A630 is at the top. Again don't sweat the contrast ratio in comparison with the 650. The matte screen of the 630 is PERFECT for bright rooms! I stood in the store comparing reflections off of the 2 sets and found that we needed the matte screen. Don't let people tell you the 650's gloss isn't noticeable it is very reflective, As far as features go, I found them to be adequate. The series 7 and 8 seem to have more inputs and outputs and some other things that don't deal with picture quality. The price jumps and to me is not worth it, but they are very nice. The key to the 630 is the matte screen. Though I should say its not a completely "sandpaper flat" matte finish like some of the older models. It has some gloss that doesn't reflect and by no means is a glossy screen. Side by side with the 650 the picture of the 630 is about equal. Add sunlight or in house lights and any advantage of the 650 is lost.

Some of this review has been updated since our purchase. I hope it helps people decide between models within in the Samsung line, they are all nice, or between Samsung and another brand.

If you need a matte screen but still want the 120HZ and new technology the Samsung 630 line is the way to go. Its one of the nicest pictures amongst ALL flat screens to date.
My Researched Choice

I reviewed and studied this whole flatscreen tv jungle for over a year and this was the TV I chose. I am obsessive over buying the BEST for what I can afford. So, first I researched the difference between plasma and LCD. Down to the end I just had to choose LCD though if the price was right I would have taken a Pioneer Kuro Elite plasma. That was a big hurdle but allowed me to focus on brand, quality and price. Brand came down to Sony, Samsung and Panasonic. I wasn't going to go with Samsung until I came across the 630 for the one defining feature... the matte screen. All other Samsungs have the "Plasma shiny screen" which is AWESOME if your family room is a movie theater, but I have windows and therefore pointless and actually hurts the quality of your picture. I then saw the 630 (which only came out like in late July or August), which is essentially the 650 with the matte screen and one less HDMI outlet and a few hundred bucks cheaper. No brainer. My mind was made. I've owned it since early October and haven't looked back. Love my purchase and I got a great deal for a little over $1900. At the price I see it now on Amazon (just under 1900), I think it's an EXCELLENT deal.

ooh, if I were to add one thing that I don't care as much about, it's the 120HZ. Cool if on sports or nature shows, but for regular TV or movies I don't like it and leave it on the 'low' setting.

I bought this tv about 2 weeks ago through Amazon.com. Got free shipping with it. The shipping company was a bit late in delivering it to me as they did not have my phone number and the agent who took my call got confused about the time zone. A freight company that gets confused about time zones is not good! However the TV did finally get to me in perfect condition. The delivery folks do not unpack it for you, but if you get "white glove" delivery apparently they do that and set it up for you. I chose the 630 model as the face of the tv is non reflective--a big difference when you watch tv in the daytime or at night with some lights on. Picture quality is excellent, set up was very easy. I bought a Bello TV stand ( ON amazonBell'O PVS-4218HG Flat Panel Audio Video System (Gloss Black $216))and it is the PERFECT stand for it, I connected my new PS3 to it via an HDMI cable I also bought on Amazon (Cables To Go - 40315 - 2M (6.5ft) Velocity HDMI Digital Video Cable (Blue) $9.99!! )and the games AND blu ray movies are simply amazing. I've heard that the PS3 also up-converts regular DVDs, not sure if true or fable, but they look fantastic as well. Very happy with purchase and overall service!

Excellent!

Standard Definition channels looks great via DirectTV. I have yet upgraded my TIVO DirectTV box to HD, but the SD pictures actually look very good. SD picture cannot be compared to HD picture, but this TV does display SD picture very well.

DVD picture from the XBOX 360 via HDMI looks great.

1080P games looks excellent. No lag issue.

Connected a laptop via VGS to the TV to watch some online movies and they look great! What a surprise.

Opinions about complains I have seem online.
1. Reflection on the screen
I have this TV in my bed room and I mainly use it at night with minimal lighting. If reflection really annoys you, you may want to consider LZ85 or other bands that use matte screen. IMHO, picture on glossy screen produces much better picture that matte screen. I compared LZ800, LZ85 and a few other bands matte screens side by side in a retail store to draw the conclusion.

2. Fan noise
Not noticable unless I stick my ear next to the TV (like an inch apart from the TV).

3. Color Text not sharp
Not using the TV as a monitor to read color text. Therefore, not a concern.

4. Backlight Bleeding
Fortunately, not experiencing it.

The online price for this TV is an excellent buy because of the quality, and craftmanship. I am very impressed with Panasonic whom can focus on Plasma for 2008 line up, but still manage to produce an extremely high quality LCD. This model definitely is comparable or even better than Sony XBR 6/7 or Samsung 6/7 series. A big plus with Panansonic is her web site provides all specific details about the TV.

Good luck searching and recommend you look at the TV in person before making your final decision.
Panasonic 37 inch TC-37LZ800 LCD TV - Great Buy !

Panasonic Viera TC-37LZ800 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Let me break down my assessment in two parts - Amazon (delivery) performance and TV performance.

The TC-37LZ800 TV is top rated in Consumer Reports and for whatever reason is nearly impossible to come by in a brick & mortar retail outlet. The Amazon price was great and significantly lower than many well heeled competitors, so I placed the order with Amazon over the phone as I wanted some assurance that this was not a gray market or refurbished TV. As the largest on-line purchase I've ever made, I had much anxiety when placing the order, due not only the cost, but also the thought of my large fragile electronic TV purchase getting banged around in transit from some remote warehouse to my home, and delivered bruised and broken. I placed a lot of faith in many successful past orders with Amazon that they would have their act together - and they did. My brand new authentic Panasonic TV arrived in pristine condition by pleasant and professional transport personnel. Slight disappointments however, were the shipment duration and the on-line tracking. Amazon apparently uses CEVA for transport of such items and as luck would have it the TV was shipped in the dead of northeast winters from one of their fulfillment centers in Pennsylvania, about 2,300 miles from my house (Phoenix, AZ). While the Amazon rep was pleasant and professional, I was led to believe I'd have it in about a week, but after order placement the written delivery commitment became 12 calendar days. The TV was delivered one day early, in 11 calendar days - but I didn't get to use it for the SuperBowl - bah. Just seems like logistics could've been better arranged from a better weather and closer location on the west side of the U.S. Also, for whatever reason, CEVA customer tracking doesn't appear to have the detail and reliability of FedEx or UPS, where the delivery trail is so well logged, you almost know when the delivery truck is rolling down your street. However, to CEVA's credit, they did call a day in advance to arrange delivery, and they also showed up at the FRONT end of their 4 hour delivery window !. Once the TV was delivered it was all worthwhile, as the TV was in great condition, not even a gash on the box.

As an engineer, I tend to be a very discerning consumer, and I'll have to say the TC-37LZ800 is a superb TV. The 37 inch LCD is a perfect size for my master bedroom, and I have it hooked to a HD cable box. The glossy lacquer piano black finish makes for a fine piece of furniture, and the TV picture is superb, both in standard def. and especially in hi-def. mode. The LCD image is one of the best I've seen, and the color intensity and image crispness pretty closely matches that of a plasma screen (one of my other TV's is a Panasonic Hi-Def. plasma, also a great TV). While reasonably easy to use and set-up, the remote could use some user friendly refinement as the button for changing the input sources should be labeled as such and not "TV/Video", and the sleep timer should have it's own button and not be buried a couple menus deep. The raw screen is glossier than most, but I haven't found that to be problem in my application (probably depends on your room light placement and viewing angle). The audio is quite respectable with no complaints, though in the future I do plan to hook it into a compact home theater system. Overall, the 37LZ800 does live up to it's high Consumer Reports ratings, and I'd highly recommend it.

Generally, aside from some delivery anxiety, it was a very good experience and I'll probably do it again in the future, especially if the prices remain great.

The Panasonic Viera 37 inch flat screen television was the highest rated 37 inch flat screen in Consumer Reports. It lives up to its high ratings. The picture is as clear and crisp when viewing from the side as it is straight on. We love it.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1P8PP6RZTV8RE Awesome TV at a bargain basement price!

Pros:
Picture Quality
Good Contrast Ratio for LCD
Price

Cons:
Only 3 HDMI (4 is the new defacto standard)
Glossy Screen - can be distracting - see video
"Bleed-through" - isolated on one unit was fine on my replacement. Always inspect your lcd's - regardless of maker!

Toshiba has really come a long way from their previous generations - Give this a try for the price you will be blown away!

4.5 stars awesome bang for the buck - saves hundreds over comparable samsungs and sony's
Great TV

Reviewer: Believer,
I bought 2 of these, one for my office and the other for my basement. The office TV is hooked to my Dell laptop and is used as a presentation screen for client meetings. I was concerned about it's glossy screen since I am in an office with overhead lights, but no problems at all. I view it 30 degrees off center, as it sits over the end of a conference table, with me and the client on opposite sides of the table. Looks great and very clear on a VGA input. Very happy with both TVs. Speakers sound great, remote easy to use.
Have owned for three months

From the moment we turned this TV on my opinion has not changed! WOW! Everyone that walks into our family room and sees the screen gasp! Our son who is a firefighter in Vegas went home and told all his co-workers about our TV, now they are all purchasing this TV and they are all happy with their purchase. This TV has a great picture, great colors and great sound. When I watch the news the newscaster seems to be sitting right across from me! They actually look 3-D. I watch TV on and off all day long and for the Olympics- what beautiful scenes. I have paused the screen and taken pictures off to the side so I don't get a flash on the screen and the pictures are worthy of printing. I recommend this TV to everyone when discussion comes up about what TV to buy. No complaints here, just, "If you don't have one yet, you don't know what you're missing!" Oh and I hooked up my laptop and it makes a great monitor for showing off my pictures and for working on FB!!!!!
Problem solved

I purchased this set to replace an old CRT model and have been blown away by the quality of the picture. Truly one of the best bang-for-the-buck models out there. That said, there are two common problems that people have experienced with this set and others in the Toshiba Regza series. I had both, but have found solutions.

1. CABLE REMOTE CONTROL INTERFERENCE

When the TV is in "auto-view" mode (the default), it emits an IR signal to measure ambient light, and adjusts the TV's backlight brightness accordingly. This signal can cause remote controls for certain cable boxes (in my case, a Motorola DCH6416 from Suddenlink) to work intermittently or in some cases not at all. From what I've read, remote controls for some other devices (satellite boxes, audio systems, etc.) can also be affected. The solution is simply to switch the TV from "auto-view" to one of the fixed modes such as "standard". Granted, this is not a perfect fix as you are disabling an advertised feature of the TV that you've paid for. Some others have reported that separating the TV and the affected device by several feet will eliminate the issue as well, although this may not be practical depending on the physical setup of your system. For me, disabling AutoView solved the problem and I'm satisfied with that.

2. AUDIO DISTORTION/ECHO USING HDMI INPUT

Search the web and you'll find this to be a common issue as well: after several hours of use, the sound can become distorted and tinny, with a buzzing sound and an odd "echo" effect. This affects the TV's own speakers as well as the signal coming from the set's audio output jacks. Toshiba has known about this problem for some time; from their web site (dated 3/26/10):

"To ensure the satisfaction of our customers and to maintain the integrity and quality of our products, Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. ("TACP") is posting this notice about the 40XV645U, 40XV648U, 46XV645U, 46XV648U, 52XV645U, 52XV648U, 42ZV650U, 47ZV650U, 55ZV650U, 46SV670U, 55SV670U TVs. This is not a safety issue.

Recently, it has come to our attention that users of a small percentage of those model TVs that we have shipped and are used in connection with a set top box via HDMI may experience a random audio echo while watching programming. If this were to occur, it would only be after many hours of continuous viewing and can be temporarily resolved by turning the TV off and on again.

If this audio echo is interfering with your enjoyment of your TV, please contact TACP Customer Solutions at 1-800-631-3811."

The permanent fix is to upgrade the firmware from ver 6.1.43 to 6.1.45 by downloading from Toshiba's support site at [...]. This admittedly is not for the technically challenged, as it requires downloading the firmware executable, extracting the contents to a USB flash drive, then finally applying the patch to the TV via a somewhat convoluted procedure. I initially had some problems, and it wasn't until I manually changed the directory structure of the flash drive to put the boot image file in the root (instead of a sub-folder as created by the upgrade installer) that I was able to get it to work. But then again, I'm a tinkerer with a fair amount of computer knowledge, and I was determined to figure it out by myself. Those not so inclined would probably find that Toshiba's tech support would walk them through the process, and I've even heard in some cases they will send you a flash drive with the patch pre-installed -- all you have to do is insert it into the TV's USB port and turn it on.

These two issues aside, I'm very pleased with this set.
Good stuff

Amazing HDTV for the price.

I was able to find this HDTV, under a 1000 buck, and for the price this is truly a bang for your buck. It have 4 HDMI slots which is quite adequate, plus it got the standard audio and video slots. The Picture quality is quite amazing. The 120 Hz of video processing gives a very sharp and clear picture, and personally, its hard to discern the difference between the 240Hz HDTVs and this one, so its a smart buy. It was quite easy to install, and make sure you got an adequate stand for this, cause the Tv is huge. The speakers are pretty good, but don't expect surround sound from it.
The Remote control is alright, not really a great fan of it, but it gets the job done. Otherwise this TV is a great purchase.
Excellent HDTV

We received this television for Christmas. We haven't even purchased an upconverting DVD player yet and we are blown away by the picture quality from a component connection. Playing Wii games and now with our newly installed HD satellite, we couldn't be more pleased with this television. Contrast and response time seem great.
Very Nice, Really

We got this at a club store for under $1k.

Also got a blu-ray player and the latest Star Trek Blu-ray.

It's really incredible how awesome the picture quality is on this. It takes a little getting used to the individual whiskers/pores showing on actor's faces. There is a very distinct awareness of depth. It's not 3d, but just a simple awareness of depth.

I also tried my old Firefly DVDs. And again I was blown away by the detail and clarity.

My last TV was a 42" LG plasma. So it shouldn't be that much difference, but it is.

Then I turned on regular programming. Pixelation all over the place...Took me until the end of the first quarter of the big game to find the OUTPUT RESOLUTION setting on the HD cable box. Once I had that set to 1080i, the quality of picture was near perfect. Cable doesn't come in 1080p around here.

The blacks are as black as the TV's case. I've noticed an occasional digital blur, but for the most part the movement is not blurred at all.

I'm not a sound guru, but the TV sounds good to me.
Great LCD for the price! Sleek looking even when off. LOVE IT!!!

My husband & I have been in the market for a larger TV for about 6 months, reading reviews, comparing picture quality, etc. This TV was displayed next to a Samsung of the same caliber; the picture quality was undoubtedly better, AND the Philips was $500 cheaper. We obviously went for the Philips and it was a breeze to set up (I did it myself). I have never been too satisfied with the sound quality of previous LCD sets, and have usually used them with home theater systems, but the sound on this TV is actually quite good! We are amazed at the picture quality & the visual preference guide when you are doing the set-up really helps to get everything just as you like it (side by side options, like at the optometrist). The 4 HDMI inputs, and countless other inputs make setting up any sound/dvd/blu-ray/gaming systems a breeze. I was also able to easily program our universal remote to control the tv (a necessity for me). We watched Lord of the Rings last night, and the visuals are stunning. I recommend this TV 110% and am actually talking my parents into replacing their 47" with this one. Excellent purchase for the price.
Great Value

I also bought this at my local wholesale club (you know, the one next to the largest big box store in the world) for less than a grand. I have 3 inputs connected to it - the cable box, an upconverting DVD player, and the PS3 - all using HDMI. And there's still one free HDMI port on the side. The audio output (S/PDIF only, so I needed a coax/optical adapter) is connected to my 5.1 surround sound system.

The video looks amazing. This replaced an older 50" Toshiba LCD (1080i max, 1 DVI input, about $2,500 and it was a deal!), and the difference is astounding. It's mounted on a stand we got for it, in the middle of a custom wall unit, so it's a bit recessed.

The initial setup uses a wizard to guide you through your preferred settings - you see two pictures next to each other, and pick the one that looks better to you. So you don't need any special calibration software, just follow the wizard.

Using HDMI cables made a big difference. I originally connected it to the PS3 using component cables because the HDMI cables I had ordered hadn't arrived yet. When they came, I switched cables, and the difference was huge.

The remote is only for the TV - it's not an all-in-one. But what would you expect? The remote is perfectly adequate for controlling the TV.

The only thing I can complain about is the sound. The speakers are in the back of the TV, so the sound projects at the back wall, and as a result, it sounds muffled. I have no idea what they were thinking with this design. However, it doesn't matter if you hook this up to your surround sound system - we just always use the surround sound now.

We liked this TV so much we bought a second one for the game/exercise room. That one is mounted over the fireplace and is open on the sides, and the sound on that one is fine.

Great TV. Amazing value.
