Amazing LCD, nothing bad about this set.

Review Date: November 15, 2009
Reviewer: R. Carr,
I've had my 55LH55 for a few days now and its everything I hoped it'd be. HD tv, PS3 and blue ray are all crisp and extremly responsive. I have not had any issue with the lip-sync issue that others are having. It may be due to the fact that I upgraded my HDMI cables to 1.3(which you should do anyway and for the price on Amazon.com you'd be foolish not to). As for the sound it could be a little better, but for a LCD sound system it's not that bad. To be honest though why would you buy this kind of set and not hook it up to 5.1 or 7.1 surround system.

Bottom line is the LG 55LH55 is the LCD you are looking for if you want a mind blowing picture, without blowing a hole in your pocket.
Great Buy

Reviewer: Bill E. Brown,
This is a great buy. I priced the LG 50-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV at Best buy near me and it was on sale for the same price as this 55 inch 240 hz. At best buy I would have also had taxes and they wanted 179.00 for shipping. The Picture Quality is excellent and my cable provider is broadcasting in 1080i. I can't wait to see it when broadcasting in 1080p. The Delivery company was very professional, they brought it into my home and waited until I inspected everything. I will definitely look on Amazon.com again when ready to make other purchases. Very Happy with everything.
Best TV Ever!

Reviewer: Josh B., Michigan
From ordering the TV to the delivery and setup, this was the easiest purchase! The price was right and the quality is outstanding. We read other reviews that claimed to have sound issues but ours couldn't be better. This picture is amazing, and when watching a blu ray disc you feel like you're standing right there! The HD channels come through with true clarity and even regular channels look great. All in all, we decided that our old tv might as well have been in black in white because this one is really that awesome!!
Excellent TV for the money, video is only as clear as the source

Review Date: November 3, 2009
Reviewer: Brian R. Foxworthy, San Francisco
I agree with some of the other reviews, picture on Blu-Ray is amazing. The price point of the television makes it hard to justify an LED right now. This TV is less than half the price of an LED and the quality is on par. Off angle viewing is a bit dim, but for the money, it is not a factor.

I have an LG blu-ray player with a $[..] HDMI cable (thank you Amazon!) and the two complement each other perfectly. The DVD remote works with the TV and vice versa. Only negative is with a TV this big, if your video source isn't perfect you will see it for sure. For example I stream Netflix and the picture can be blurry at times.

Bottom line, with a TV this big, don't even bother watching something unless it is HD quality. Do your self a favor, buy this TV, only use HDMI (cheap ones on Amazon) and set a time limit, the TV is addictive! Enjoy.

Just bought this and received it this week from Amazon. Delivery was thorough and they made sure it worked before they would leave.

Picture quality is better than I thought it would be. Better than any plasma I've seen. I knew it would be good with the 240hz but it is really really good! I ran thru it's own calibration on set up so no need to pay Best Buy $300 for that, what a joke that is. And, be sure to buy the 1.3 HDMI cables to ensure a quality signal, I run mine off of a Direct HD DVR. I bought the cables from Amazon supercheap plus a metal cheetah mount for less than $100 for two cables and the mount!

This TV is a steal for the price and the quality. The blacks are super dark, the colors vibrant and picture is clear as a bell. HD the way it is meant to be seen.

Only downside is the lack of bass response from the in cabinet speakers but thats what surround sound systems are for!

Superb Value

Review Date: August 14, 2007
Reviewer: J. Marques, Ohio - United States
This LCD is a winner. Cannot beat the price/performance ratio. I bought it at popular warehouse store for $1699. This unit has 3 HDMI inputs - rare for that price point. The component video inputs do full HD - 1080p. If you do research you'll find that MANY LCD's do NOT carry 1080p over component. This is particularly important for Xbox 360 owners since there's no HDMI out on the non-elite models so 1080p through component is critical.

I think this is a hidden jewel given the quality panel, excellent feature set, and price. Keep in mind I'm a stickler for good color - running a fully calibrated and profiled 24" LCD on my PC with custom profiles for printing photos. I simply can't find anything to complain about with this unit. It's as good as any model I've personally seen in this size range costing hundreds more. Why waste money on a higher priced LCD with TV's now being "disposable" (who repairs TV's anymore)? In 5 years there will be affordable LED backlit units and who knows what else. Jump on the value and enjoy.

PS - sadly, the overall rating for this LCD is hurt by an ignorant reviewer who is referencing a DIFFERENT MODEL.

UPDATE: I returned this set and bought a Samsung LNT-4671F. This is no reflection on the quality of the Philips - my original comments stand. I only switched because I saw deeper blacks in the Samsung and an overall superior picture (my wife didn't notice a difference for those of you who are not detail geeks like me). This swap comes at a cost - the Samsung was 40% more expensive when I bought it (there's no free lunch). I still recommend the Philips as the best value in the 46-47" size range.
This one DOES do 1080P

One of the reviews for this item will make you pause before you buy it. The problem is, 2 of the reviews for this item on Amazon.com are for DIFFERENT MODELS. I own this one. This one is beautiful. It has THREE (not two) HDMI inputs and does accept full 1080P, even 1080P/24 (from a BlueRay player). This picture is beautiful. Great set.
Great Picture - best in the store

I bought a ->
Philips 47PFL7422D 47" 1080p LCD HDTV

And I will say the set is better than I expected. I was in a Major Store with about 40 TV Sets on one wall. This TV Jumped right out at us and we walked right up to it. Stepped back for 5 minutes and then looked at all the other Sets in the 1500.00 price range 1080P and nothing was close.

I don't know what the guy is talking about when he says the set is not black enough. That Perfect Pixel HD Engine is doing something inside this unit.

I have Comcast with that great Explorer Cable Box, I used the HDMI plugs and I also have the Phillips DVD Player , the one that allows all type of media, DIVX and all. I have a Mac Pro Tower and I can hook the Monitor right up to it. Very Cool. I don't have a Blu Ray yet, I'M still waiting to see the next generation of players, and maybe a Game BR Player may be a good choice. They make Mod Chips for them to do just about anything.

There is a ceiling fan right above the set and that will help keep it cool. These LCD sets run much cooler than a Plasma set and saves a bit on the power bill over plasma.

I like this set so much I'M buying two more, one to ship to mom and one for a guest bedroom. The pedestal base is very nice. My set does not have a clicking problem like I read in another post.

I read consumer reports, all kinds of reviews, and the salesman. Bottom Line, the set has a stunning clear picture and was half 1/2 the price of the Sony. So I got 2 for 1 on this deal. You will not be disappointed with this set.

Don't buy a Plasma just to be cool, the LCD TV's are just as good if not better in many ways. I see many people buying the larger 720P Plasma TV's because they dropped the price to dump them. Take the time to look at a 720P next to a 1080P (Hopefully this set) and you will understand the 1080P is the set to own for the next few years.

This is a long post, but I wanted to give a review from a regular gent who tell's it like it is.

I don't buy a Brooks Brothers Shirt because of the name, I buy them because they custom make each shirt to my neck and sleeve size. Like 18 1/2" neck and 35 1/2" sleeve. Not just S, M, L, XL and a Polo on the pocket. Don't buy something just because of the brand. Look at the all sets and let your eyes make the decision.

All The Best,
Great TV at a great cost

Review Date: January 11, 2008
Reviewer: J. Parkinson,
The Philips 47PFL7422 is an excellent tv in all respects (I actually own the 7432, which has ambilight - this is the only difference between the two TVs). Though I would not consider myself an extremely picky buyer, I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this TV, and I believe it is the best marriage of quality and cost.

I bought the TV mainly for sports, and it does not dissappoint - ESPN HD, Fox HD, and CBS HD all look spectacular on this set. I have comcast digital cable, which broadcasts in 1080i, and the picture looks truly amazing. I also have a ps3 hooked up through one of the HDMI inputs, and I have to say - if you're going to buy a 1080p tv, YOU NEED TO BUY A PS3, or at the very least a blu-ray player. Watching movies like "Planet Earth" really shows off the quality of the Philips 47pfl series.

A couple down sides to the TV. The contrast ratio isn't spectacular. That being said, if you want deep blacks, buy a plasma. I can't really say I've noticed any problems with the contrast, but my roommate has said that his DVD player looks awful when playing DVD's. I just use my ps3 and even regular DVD's look great. Also, the TV makes some STRANGE sounds when it is off (at least the 7432 model - do some research before you buy this model and see if other users are reporting the same thing). Essentially, the TV sounds like it is turning on and off, when in actuality it will stay off the whole time. Very strange. Of course, this is not an issue for me, as my TV is not in my bedroom. If however you are buying this for a bedroom and you are a light sleeper, beware because the noise is very loud, though it does happen infrequently.

One more issue - Philips has acknowledged that the TV suffers from "remote insensitivity" when first turned on. Essentially, your remote will not work for 1-2 minutes. It's certainly not a big deal, but can be annoying.

Overall, this TV has been nothing but wonderful for me. I have owned it since late July 2007, and have had no problems with it. HD tv and blu-ray movies look spectacular, and although the blacks are not the deepest I have ever seen, for the price this TV is a no-brainer. Hope this review helps and happy hunting!
Great LCD TV!
